The Land Registry has published new guidance designed to help landlords remain legally compliant when altering or correcting deeds lodged for registration.
Practice Guide 68 has been issued in order to prevent legal confusion in instances where landlords are forced to make amendments to an original deed or lease due to altered circumstances or a clerical error during the drafting process.
The guide is also intended to clarify forms of transfer and other legal requirements governed by the 2002 Land Registration Act and Rules for deeds which have been produced for the purpose of correcting an earlier document.
Pascal Lalande of Land Registry's registration change group said that although deeds and leases of this kind are generally completed and registered correctly, the guidance has been produced in order to help those involved to "avoid any registration pitfalls".
Last month, the British Property Federation published guidance designed to help landlords and letting agents understand the government's new Carbon Reduction Commitment laws on energy consumption in property.
