HSE issues landlord warning

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has given landlords a number of warnings about property management.

If landlords do not take their responsibilities seriously, the regulatory body "will not hesitate to prosecute" them.

This guidance comes from HSE inspector Matthew Tackling, who claimed that gas safety in rental properties is a particularly vital issue to consider.

He added that the HSE will "follow up on those who fail to co-operate with any investigation or fail to appear in court".

There have been a number of similar warnings in the last few weeks due to the introduction of the new Gas Safe Register.

Replacing the Corgi initiative, which had been in place since the early 1990s, the new scheme has been implemented to clamp down on the number of unregistered gas workers and raise awareness of gas safety in the UK.
