House prices in England and Wales remain static

February saw property prices in England and Wales remain static, reflecting a weaker housing market.
That is according to the latest figures from the Land Registry, which revealed that there was no monthly price change for the market in February, with the average house price now standing at £185,616.
Regionally, the highest monthly rise was experienced in the West Midlands, where the price of a typical house increased by 1.3 per cent.
Property prices in Wales decreased by 1.1 per cent, representing the most significant monthly fall.
The average price for a house in London dropped by 0.4 per cent to £353,760, although the capital maintains the highest annual growth of all regions.
The data from the Land Registry also indicated that in the last quarter of 2007 the number of transactions in the housing market fell to an average of 90,880 per month.
The figurefrom the same period in 2006 was 117,301.
