The introduction of Home Information Packs (Hips) has already forced landlords and other homeowners to think about the green issues surrounding property, an industry expert has said.

In particular, Julian Brooks, the managing director of GreenMoves, explained that the Energy Performance Certificate section of the Hip meant that environmental issues would soon take more of a centre stage in the housing market.

"People are now thinking about energy, they are thinking about the costs of running something and therefore it's become almost the standard," Mr Brooks added.

"It's still early days but I think it will, in this current climate, affect the decisions made when purchasing average properties."

Recently, Cara Naden, a spokesperson for Ecos Homes, explained that tenants enjoyed living in homes designed to minimise their impact on the environment.

She concluded: "The home is designed to get maximum light, so you reduce the use of artificial lighting. Generally it's a better quality of life if you live in an eco-home."
