Landlords need to "work harder" to attract high-end tenants, according to an industry expert.
Low confidence among banks and in the housing market has made it difficult for many homeowners to sell their properties.
According to figures from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, this has seen an increase in the number of homeowners opting to offer their homes for rent.
However, even though figures released by the Association of Residential Lettings Agents earlier this week show demand for residential lettings is on the rise, landlords have been warned they will still need to put some effort in to attract high-paying tenants.
Nina Longstaff, head of marketing and PR for Architect Your Home, told Choices estate agency that landlords "have to work harder to attract the best tenants and interior design is a key element in achieving that".
She explained:"At this end of the market having an interior designed property is an essential rather than a 'nice to have'."
