Landlords and homeowners have been encouraged to install more energy-efficient boilers in their properties by a new government scheme.
An estimated 125,000 households in the UK may be able to gain a £400 discount from the Energy Saving Trust if they switch their G-rated boiler for an A-rated one.
The aim of the move is to help cut carbon emissions and fuel bills for homeowners, landlords and tenants.
Ed Miliband, climate change secretary, said the scheme could save around £200 a year in heating bills for a family home, as well producing a carbon emissions cut equivalent to taking 45,000 cars off the road.
"The scheme will add to the existing package of government measures to help householders be smarter about the energy they use, leading to permanently reduced fuel bills and cutting emissions," he added.
It has been welcomed by Gareth Kloet, head of utilities at Confused.com, who said landlords and homeowners should shop around to find the best deal when installing a new boiler.
