The government has shown it understands the contribution private landlords make to society by abolishing shared housing planning regulations.
According to the National Landlords Association (NLA), the move towards a more targeted approach proves the government knows landlords are necessary to provide affordable accommodation.
Chairman of the NLA David Salusbury stated that he is pleased to see the government act to rethink planning regulations that affect landlords.
"Unnecessary costs and red tape only serve to detract from this core activity and we welcome moves to tackle such disincentives to further investment," he said.
Mr Salusbury added that landlord organisations such as the NLA can aid local authorities to tackle housing problems.
The government's decision has also been praised by letting agent body Arla, which stated that not removing the legislation would have added unnecessary red tape to private landlords.
Operations manager Ian Potter said a progressive and healthy private rented sector is key to providing people with the housing they need.
