The Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla) will advise the government on how best to protect tenants who are facing being thrown out of their homes as a result of landlords defaulting on their mortgage payments.
According to the group's operations manager, Ian Potter, the best ways to offer protection will be outlined in the organisation's Budget submission over the next couple of weeks, ahead of the chancellor's speech on Wednesday April 22nd.
"One realistic solution would be for the government to insist that local authorities take more action on the use of empty dwelling management orders to ensure that better utilisation is made of the housing stock in the country," he explained.
The operations manager added that tenants and homeowners, including landlords, require politicians to "act quickly" regarding their repossession policies to reduce stress for all involved.
His comments come after the Conservative Party announced new measures to protect tenants from repossession. Mr Potter claimed the proposals showed how politicians do not understand the lettings sector.
