The majority of women living in London rent their homes, a new report from Friends Provident has revealed.

The report, entitled 'The Sex and the City Generation: Fashionistas not Cashonistas' revealed that just 46 per cent of women living in London own their home, despite the fact that a third (32 per cent) own more than 30 pairs of shoes.

Comparing the lives of women around the UK to the main characters in popular television series and upcoming film Sex in the City, Friends Provident found that women living in London were most like Carrie, while those from Scotland were similar to Miranda, the most financially savvy.

Christine O'Grady, senior retail media relations executive at Friends Provident, said: "The UK is full of women living the Sex and the City lifestyle, yet many of them are doing so by gambling with the future.

"Scottish Mirandas tell us they are best preparedfinancially but we would urge the Carries of this world to consider where the shoes of today will get them in the future."

Last month, research from the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) revealed that 52 per cent of London landlords felt demand for private rented accommodation outpaced supply in the first quarter of 2008.
