Energy efficient homes can attract residents

Homes that meet energy efficiency standards are likely to attract both potential tenants and homebuyers, experts have revealed.

According to the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (IPHE), improvements to properties, such as more ecological plumbing and heating, will reap obvious benefits.

Danny Davis, senior technical engineer for the IPHE, confirmed that improved conservation techniques will benefit property owners.

"Energy and environmentally conscious homeowners and consumers will be aware of the potential benefits associated with improvements to their plumbing and heating systems," he said.

"Energy conscious consumers would certainly be attracted to a house incorporating both energy and water conserving technologies over a similar house without such measures in place," Mr Davis added.

Meanwhile, the National Landlords Association has urged property owners to make use of tax breaks under the Landlord's Energy Saving Allowance to claim back the cost of making green home improvements.
