Landlords considering their next move in the property market may see that asking prices for bricks and mortar have gone up, when compared to the last few months.

Industry website Rightmove has found that vendors are setting prices 1.8 per cent higher in April than they were in March.

According to the company, property asking prices have now increased for three months in a row.

Miles Shipside, commercial director of Rightmove, said: "My view is that many sellers are still starting too high, but the fact that they are coming to market in greater numbers and feel they can ask more shows a strengthening in resolve and confidence, which is an encouraging sign."

He added there needs to be an increase in the availability of mortgage finance for true optimism to return to the general property market.

Rightmove's findings come after Nationwide Building Society published research that suggested house prices increased month-on-month in March.
