Edinburgh lettings agents are experiencing record demand for rental accommodation, it has been reported.
During July, DJ Alexander has reported that it rented out 185 properties in Edinburgh - the highest number in the company's 26-year history.
Meanwhile, Braemore Property Management has seen rental demand rise by 15 per cent.
David Alexander, head of DJ Alexander said that the firm is also experiencing a change in the profile of its typical tenants, with people from professions such as teaching and nursing now seeking rental accommodation in increasing numbers.
He told the Scotsman: "One of the reasons for the upsurge in demand for unfurnished lettings is that increasing numbers of clients have been, or still are, home-owners with belongings of their own.
"About 50 per cent of new rental demand now relates to unfurnished properties, whereas historically 90 percent of rental requests had been for furnished flats and houses. As a result, there is now little or no difference between what it costs to rent a furnished and unfurnished property."
