Drugs warning for landlords

Landlords and letting agents in Plymouth have been warned to be vigilant for properties being used as cannabis-growing factories, after police yesterday closed down two operations in the city.

The rental properties in Clayton Place and Greenbank Terrace were discovered to house large quantities of the drug as well as growing equipment such as high power lights, foil and bottles of feed.

The raids bring the number of houses closed for this purpose to four in the last week, the Plymouth Evening Herald reports.

Detective Constable Bradley, drug intelligence officer with the Plymouth police, said landlords can guard against the practice by keeping a careful eye on their homes.

He added: "We would encourage landlords and the public who are suspicious to contact us.

"The alarm bells should ring for a landlord if you can never get into your property and you're always being fobbed off. Look out for curtains that are always drawn."

Plymouth police are in the process of producing a leaflet to help landlords spot warning signs that their property is being used for illicit purposes.
