Student accommodation is likely to be in high demand during the economic downturn, according to Savills.
A buy to let landlord could be in a prime position to take advantage of this scenario in areas with high student populations, it has been claimed.
The Savills Student Housing Report indicates that demand for student residential lettings has risen by 31 per cent during the last ten years.
Numbers of students staying in houses of multiple occupation has also grown by nine per cent.
Jacqui Daly, director of research at the estate agent, notes that both rental demand and quotes are also strong at the moment.
She explained that demand could increase further as "the economy is taking a downturn with more students registering for post-graduate courses".
"As long as investors can pay their debt, get rental income coming in and manage their property, I don't see any adverse effects on the buy-to-let market," Ms Daly suggested.
