Despite the withdrawal of certain buy-to-let mortgage products, continued tenant demand should mean that the market will perform well this year.
That is according to a spokeswoman for specialist brokers the Business Mortgage Company, who asserted that "the key factors driving the buy-to-let market are still strong".
She said that the current uncertainty over UK property was leading many prospective buyers to opt for rented accommodation while they watched the market.
The spokeswoman added that this represented an excellent opportunity for buy-to-let landlords, as the trend is serving to increase rents.
She commented: "There are rising levels of tenant demand as people wait to see what happens in the housing market before purchasing.
"Rents are rising as a result and this year could present some great opportunities for landlords looking to expand their portfolios.
"Generally the [buy-to-let] market should continue to perform well during 2008."
