There is a lack of supply of rental properties for students in the UK, a new study has shown.
Hamptons International reported that that demand for student rental properties is so high that people look to renew their tenancies rather than look for a new home.
The estate agent added that there can be up to ten groups of students looking at each available property.
High levels of demand mean that landlords have been able to increase the rents they ask for, the report noted.
"Students are increasingly savvy when it comes to getting in early to secure their ideal property," commented Melanie Williams of Hamptons International.
"Our list comes out at Christmas time for the next academic year and we have students queuing round the corner to arrange early viewings."
The report concluded by pointing out that students were increasingly demanding that their properties are furnished and decorated to a high standard.
Paragon Mortgages recently reported that increasing demand across the UK rental market had allowed them to increase rents to record levels.
