Landlords may want to take note of one expert's advice in order to avoid problems with the heating systems in their rented properties this winter.
Mark Emmett, regional services manager for E.ON, explained how preventative checks are the best way to ensure boilers stay efficient during the colder months.
"We would always advocate that people have the boiler and central systems checked once a year," he stated, adding that a qualified engineer can assess the device and make sure it is safe.
However, individuals can carry out some inspections themselves, such as making sure their controls and room thermostats are set correctly, as well as looking at the pressure.
In order to avoid frozen pipes, Mr Emmett recommended setting the gauge to at least a bar and a half in case of a "really cold period".
The comments come after director of external affairs at National Energy Action Maria Wardrobe recently claimed the current number of households in Britain suffering from fuel poverty stands at 6.6 million.
