A landlord in Ulster is facing a £10,000 bill to restore his property after his tenants converted it into a cannabis factory.

The unnamed landlord had rented the property to a private client in January via a letting agent - and was unaware of the operation for months.

He discovered its existence when the client missed a monthly rent repayment and his letting agent visited the house to speak with the occupants.

The landlord told the News Letter: "The damage is shocking. The inconvenience is incomprehensible with the breaking of the tenancy agreement and hassle of getting the place tidied and set up again.

"I've had to take time off work to be interviewed by police and organise cleaning - there is at least £5,000 to £10,000 worth of damage."

It is thought that criminals were harvesting cannabis worth around £150,000 to £250,000 every eight weeks, with a street value estimated to be up to double that.
