Brokers remain optimistic about the prospects of the UK's buy-to-let market this year, with many anticipating that investors will continue to expand their portfolios.
That is the finding of new research from The Mortgage Works, which revealed that 44 per cent of the intermediaries questioned believed there would be continued investment by professional buy-to-let landlords in 2008.
Brokers also envisioned a favourable outlook for rental yields this year and a static or increased tenant demand was predicted by 94 per cent of those questioned.
Andy McQueen, managing director of The Mortgage Works, commented: "Intermediaries are on the frontline of the mortgage market and so are well placed to assess the prospects of professional landlords.
"Clearly the current climate is not ideal for first-time landlords, given the limited number of deals available to them, but experienced investors may find excellent opportunities in a cooling housing market to purchase additional property."
