'Best value' properties in the country identified

News Category: Industry News

New research has identified which towns in the UK remain the best value for landlords and other homebuyers.

Overall, the data from Halifax shows that Chesham in Buckinghamshire offers the best value flats, Sleaford in Lincolnshire is the most competitive when it comes to semi-detached properties and Stowmarket in Suffolk is best for terraced homes.

Flats in Chesham typically cost less than £150,000 but the town was ranked the sixth best place to live in the country in Halifax's most recent Quality of Life Survey.

On average, a terraced house in Stowmarket would cost a landlord £133,331. The town was ranked 17th in terms of quality of life.

Sleaford in Lincolnshire was placed at number 129 in the life quality study, but a semi-detached property only costs £139,791.

Martin Ellis, chief economist at Halifax, explained that, despite rising house prices, "there are still some bargains to be had".

He added: "Chesham is the best value for money location in the country for flats, followed by Stowmarket for terraced properties."

Recently, the Woolwich suggested that rising house prices and interest rates would force people to rent for longer, improving the market for rental property.ADNFCR-1064-ID-18204633-ADNFCR
