Berkshire agent killed in tragic accident

A retired estate agent who founded his own firm in the Thames Valley has been killed.
Michael Hardy launched Michael Hardy Estate Agents in 1985, serving the Wokingham and surrounding areas, building up a strong reputation to become one of the most professional and innovative firms in the locality.
After his retirement, he became a consultant to the firm, retaining strong links with the staff.
He died last week after being hit by a train while trying to save his dog.
Neal Mackenzie, managing director of Michael Hardy Estate Agents, said: “He was a gentleman. He was a delight – very funny, very witty. He was a delightful bloke. I don’t think anyone would have a bad word to say about him. He was a dear friend to a lot of the staff and will be very sorely missed.”
Aged 71, Mr Hardy had only recently moved with his wife Ann to a new home in Wiltshire. He died on a level crossing near Warminster. He is thought to have crossed the line but gone back to retrieve his dog when the train hit him and his dog, which also died.
The incident is being investigated by police and the coroner has been informed. As well as a widow, Mr Hardy leaves two grown-up daughters.
