The threat of turbulent British weather should encourage homeowners, including landlords, to make sure that their properties are fully insured.
Recent research by Abbey Home Insurance showed that UK homes are increasingly at risk from severe weather.
The survey found that as much as 11 per cent of UK homes were damaged by bad weather in the last five years.
Abbey concluded that roofs and gardens were the areas most likely to incur damage, although home interiors were also in harm's way, accounting for a quarter of all damage sustained.
Commenting on the findings, Lloyd Wilson of Abbey Home Insurance, remarked that bad weather is a "costly inconvenience" that represents a "yearly nightmare" for many people.
"Our research shows that the risk of damage to our homes is an ever-increasing reality and we need to be prepared for it."
"TheBritish weather is highly unpredictable but we can all ensure that should the worst happen we are correctly insured," he added.
