Arla has called for action to be taken to regulate rogue landlords, which it has described as a threat to everyone operating in the domestic rental sector.
The body has stated that the activities of such landlords can create damage to the image of the rented property market, which impacts not only upon other landlords, but also on letting agents.
As a result, Arla has backed recommendations from the National Landlords Association to introduce a register for approved landlords, which it feels will help to better regulate unqualified operators.
It pointed to its own letting agent licensing scheme as a reaction to the same problem, stating that the sector should aspire to better educate consumers on the potential threat of bad practice.
Ian Potter, operations manager of Arla, added: "Protection for the consumer is paramount."
This comes after Mr Potter last month called on the government to do more to oust rogue and underqualified letting agents from the industry.
