Arla publishes new guide for landlords

Arla has published a new guide for landlords which examines the role of investment in residential rental housing.

The annual guide is designed to become the "prime briefing document" for both new and existing landlords and property investors.

It covers important issues such as how to look for and assess suitable rental properties, as well as explaining legal issues like as Houses in Multiple Occupation and Private Sector Leasing.

This year, it also covers rules relating to Tenancy Agreements, Tenancy Deposit Protection and other legal requirements.

"We do as much as we can within our resources to provide information on both buy-to-let and the private rented sector," explained Ian Potter, Arla's operations manager.

"Together with the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) we make all this information freely available to the public, both landlords and tenants."

A recent report by Community Legal Service Direct found that a great number of tenants were unaware of their legal rights when dealing with landlords.
