Agent is banned from using'win a car'advert

News Category: Industry News

A complaint about an advertisement by an Essex estate agent has been upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority.

The ad stated: “By appointing Churchills as your trusted Estate Agent in the sale of your property you will also give yourself an excellent opportunity of winning a beautiful car worth £7,000 plus! … For further details about how simple it is to win a car, please contact your local branch as below.”

A complainant challenged whether the advertisement was in breach because it did not provide the terms and conditions of the prize promotion.

Churchills did not respond to inquiries, said the ASA, which upheld the complaint.

The ASA said it was concerned by the firm’s lack of response, and that the advertisement had omitted information on how consumers could participate in the promotion, the relevant eligibility criteria and the closing date, contrary to the requirements of the CAP Code.

Churchills have been told that the advertisement must not appear again in its current form and that future promotions include full terms and conditions.
